Nell Smith Jackson (88) of Milledgeville, GA, died on August 8, 2017. She was born in
Hawkinsville, GA, on October 9, 1928. She was a graduate of Hawkinsville High School, Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, and Barbizon School of Modeling in New York City. She and her husband of 67 years lived and raised their family in Sandersville, GA., before spending the past 35 years on Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville, GA. While in Sandersville, Nell was very active in the community and worked as a registered hygienist with her husband’s dental practice while raising her family. She was a member and past president of the Transylvania Club and The Guild in Sandersville. While in Milledgeville, she was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the State of Georgia, the Old Capitol Garden Club, the Carrington Woods Garden Club, and several bridge clubs. Nell was an avid painter upon retirement to Milledgeville and participated in numerous art shows for many years in the Middle Georgia area. Elected Mrs. Macon in 1968, Nell represented Macon in the Mrs. Georgia contest. During her tenure, she was presented the keys to the city both in Macon and Sandersville.
Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hiram Madison Jackson; her parents, Amanda and Richard Bembry Smith and her brothers, Lamkin Smith of Hawkinsville and Dr. Richard B. Smith of Wilmington, NC. She is survived by her son Walker M. Jackson (Charlotte) of Auburn, AL; two daughters Kathleen J. Martin (Charles) and Lauren J. Gould (Robin) of Milledgeville. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Cory A. Smith of Atlanta, GA, Ben S. Jackson (Frances) of Tyler, TX, Bonnie J. Capps (Matthew) of Mobile, AL., great-grandchildren Mary Nell Capps, Charlotte Capps, Ford Jackson, Nellie Jackson and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be at Williams Funeral Home Friday, 1:00 on August 11, 2017, for visitation and a Memorial Service will held at 2:00 in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Reverend Mac Enfinger officiating. Burial will be private. If desired, the family respectfully suggests that memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 366 Log Cabin Road, Milledgeville, GA., 31061. Williams Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
